Urinary Tract Panel (UTI)
Urinary tract disease is common in dogs and cats and accounts for significant use (and presumably, overuse and misuse) of antimicrobials. About 25% of pets that develop a UTI in their lifetime will experience recurrence.3
So while urinary tract diseases are very common in pets, urinary tract infections are not. The VetraTest is first to market with quantitative PCR for urinary tract infections in dogs and cats. Now, you can treat the infection precisely – or alternatively, determine NOT to treat urinary tract diseases with antibiotics that won’t be effective.
Save yourself the headache of repeat visits by identifying the cause and treatment for UTIs accurately, the first time.
PCR technology detects bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses with 100% accuracy and specificity.
48-hour results from when it hits the lab
Specimen collection kits & shipping to our lab are FREE. Minimal specimen needed for processing.
The UTI VetraTest ™
The patented VetraTest is focused on targeting the most common pathogens that cause Urinary Tract Infections in dogs and cats. Our teams of researchers, scientists, and vets work together to target the culprit pathogens based on clinical experience. These pathogens create a comprehensive panel to detect the cause of the infection.
The VetraTest will detect and report only our targets, so you won’t get confused by common or healthy flora being documented.
Preferred Collection Method
3 ml (1 ml minimum)
UTI ABR (ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE PANEL)
If bacteria are detected as a cause of the infection, our VetraTest “reflexes” to our ABR panel. It serves as a guide to quick treatment decisions that will not be resistant to the pathogen(s) detected.
ABR report indicates:
Most common medications prescribed for UTIs
Which medication will work
Which medication will not work
UTI Pathogen Panel
Facultative Anaerobic VetraTest accurately identifies presence + load within 48 hours.
Escherichia coli; Proteus mirabilis/Proteus vulgaris; Klebsiella pneumoniae; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Enterobacter aerogenes; Enterobacter cloacae; Staphylococcus aureus; Streptococcus canis; Streptococcus alactolyticus; Streptococcus bovis; Enterococcus spp. (E. faecalis/E.)
FUN FACT: IT COULD BE A FUNGAL INFECTION!
It takes weeks to grow fungus with culture. The Vetra Test accurately identifes presence and load within 48 hours.
RULE IT OUT.
When using empirical treatment, it is estimated that 40% of medications originally prescribed are changed once the susceptibility is reported.

What is PCR?
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is the technique we use to extract DNA from the sample, amplify it by heating and cooling so that it shows the amount of copies of the pathogens we are targeting. PCR is used in forensics, ancestry, cancer and illness, infectious disease in humans (Covid-19) and now… pets! PCR only tests for what is targeted on the panels. Panels are developed to detect only the common causes of infections. It does not review the entire genome, and will not show you “healthy flora”.
What does the UTI VetraTest cost?
Our tests cost the same amount you pay for cultures and sensitivities the other labs sell. We know that when selling a new technology to vets, we had to make it easy for you to switch from the rotary to the smart phone. Not only do we keep the price in the ballpark, Vetranomix also includes aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, and additionally tests for fungus, viruses, and parasites. As if that is not already enough… we also provide our antibiotic resistance panel (ABR) to quickly show vets which medication will be resistant to the infection detected.
